For the last several years there has been a working group focused on web authentication trying to come up with a standard. Their work has resulted in a candidate recommendation being put forward by W3C.
A new experiment: Browser-based web apps with .NET and Blazor
Microsoft has put out a new experiment based on C# and Razor that runs in the browser using WebAssembly. It is only an experiment, but probably worth keeping an eye on.
